What Fabric Should I use?

I have taken up a new hobby.  Quilting,  you will recall. 

I am supposed to learn a new quilt block, actually two, each month.  It is almost March, and I have completed one block.  I am a wee bit behind.  But what does it matter? I’m enjoying the time I do get to quilt.

I’m hoping to quilt tonight during Biggest Loser.

I day dream about sitting before my sewing machine.  Enjoying 12 Rose Tea with a hint of honey, and pretending to chat with my instructor, Amy Gibson.  I think it is a sign that I am getting older. 

I finished my Asterick block and now I am going to make the Wonky Pound Sign. 

So what fabric do you think I should use? 1, 2, or 3?

Would anyone be interested in joining me?  The class is free.  Even though there is a forum attached to the class, I could host a link-up where you could show off your quilting each month. 

I have to warn you . . . Craftsy will lure you in (in a good way).  The Craftsy  Marketplace has some amazing patterns . . . you can even sell your patterns.  (No commission or fee to list or sell them, unlike my experience with Etsy.)  I doubt I will ever create my own quilt pattern -- as I am a sheep when it comes to craftsy things.

My Grandma’s Sewing Machine

It isn’t young.  It isn’t fancy.

But it is my grandma’s.  With this beloved hand-me-down, I am embarking on a new hobby. 

Quilting.

I want something that is both beautiful and somewhat frivolous to do.  Mindless.  Methodical with a touch of funky. 

Feminine. 

I can picture sweet nights of quilting with Naomi . . . crafting a quilt for her brother(s).  A brother that leaves for college, the Navy, ministry, or aviation school, should the Lord tarry.

It will be a hobby that provides details and has love stitched into it.  Rather than be paid for my work, I have to purchase materials myself.  I have to give of myself to create beauty.

And the audience shall be small.

I am ok with that.  Thrilled, actually.

Many years ago, my grandma gave me a sewing machine. 

I was thankful at the time, but I had no idea the impact her gift would have on my life and 300+ others.
 

Her simple gift has given me a chance for creativity, an opportunity to provide a very tiny income to support my habit of coffee and gift giving, and an opportunity to bless others with a hands free way to nurture their children, yet get household chores done! 

I love playing with fabric colors and delighting new moms with a homespun creation.

My Crafty Sister

The great thing about sisters is you can't shake them.

You always have a friend, no matter what.

I'm sure that I peeve my sister a lot, but she keeps coming back! Praise the Lord! Even with my intense personality, she still loves me through thick and thin and despite the unusual endeavors that I pursue.

My sister is crafty and entrepreneurial.

She has a blog for creative play-dates with your kids. Great ideas for Mom's!
