Coffee Kombucha

Ready to make that daily coffee of yours healthier?

Enter Coffee Kombucha.

DSC_0011

Surprisingly tasty.

DSC_0017

Despite how it mutilated the SCOBY.

But I anticipated this.  After all, the coffee is so acidic that there is no need to add previously fermented kombucha.

This may turn you off from making this beverage, but quite honestly the coffee SCOBY reminded me of a placenta.

Even a placenta can be eaten, though.

If you can’t stop bleeding after giving birth, a chewy bite of your placenta will act like Pitocin.  (God is so creative.)

Ingredients

DSC_0075

  • 2 quarts caffeinated organic brewed coffee
  • 1 cup organic cane sugar
  • kombucha SCOBY(use an offspring – not your main SCOBY)

Directions

After brewing your coffee, add sugar while the coffee is still hot.

I love the designs the steam made as it cooled.

Once cooled, add your SCOBY.  Cover and allow to rest for 5 – 10 days, depending on your taste buds and desire for all the the caffeine and sugar to be eaten.

You will see some carbonation when you transfer it to a storage jar.

Chill and enjoy!

I’m Not OK With That

There comes a time when an individual is called to action.  When a blessing has been bestowed, it seems only natural to give back.

Now is the time.

My blog began as an virtual scrapbook of the daily events that breezed through my reality.  It was launched to provide a place to organize a chronological journal of my kids.

It morphed into a tutorial of sorts -- to save time instead of emailing the same recipes over and over and over again to inquiring minds.

God kept giving me new ideas.  As He did, I found that my blog began to grow and became a resource (and hopefully a refuge).  The moment I begin to blog on my own agenda, I discover that you, my reader, lose interest.

This blog is by no means a money maker.  I would imagine that the time I spend planning, writing, editing, answering emails, and responding to comments far outweighs the minimal paycheck I receive from my various affiliates.

But I am doing what God has called me to.  I love to write.  And when I can write with my fingers to express what is in my heart, I experience God’s pleasure.  Whether or not my writing is good -- I write as an offering unto the Lord.

However, I have been called to step out into something way beyond myself.   It makes me nervous.  I feel grossly inadequate. I am writing for One Verse.  I am a One Verse Blogger and I’m passionate about making sure that the Vidunda people receive a translation of the Bible in their language.

OneVerse Blogger

The work began in 2009 and is expected to be completed in 2015.

Today, the Granola Mom 4 God blog is an official partner with One Verse.  What does this mean?  Each time  you purchase something from one of my affiliate links, such as All About Reading, Aquasana, Vitamix, Little Passports, Pick and Draw, GAPS monthly menu plans,  or even Amazon . . . I earn money.

But know that I tithe that money.

So your money will go towards Bible translation . . . indirectly.

For $26 a month (5 Starbucks) you could join with me and sponsor the Vidunda people group

In the coming months, I will host a link for you to share what Bible verse you helped translate that month and how that verse has impacted you.

So . . . head on over to One Verse.

One Verse Bloggers

And I am once again inviting you to join with me.

It will take you less than 5 minutes, but that 5 minutes has the potential to impact someone for eternity.

Bed Jumping

While on a recent vacation to Chicago, we stayed in a hotel.  All six of us were in a room.  It was cozy.

Thankfully we brought a sound machine.

Those of you who knew we were traveling, know what I am about to show you.  If you are adverse to bed jumping, I recommend you jump to another post

We jumped.

DSC_0008

It’s a tradition.

DSC_0011

I’m sharing.

DSC_0018

Seriously, what a priceless smile.

Elation.

DSC_0022

There is even a website for such outlandish activities that we have been known to participate in.

DSC_0024

I really enjoy our bed jumping.

It makes me laugh.

DSC_0028

That Engineer can be quite humorous.

DSC_0034

So tell the truth . . . do you practice bed jumping at hotels?

DSC_0047

Because I do.

It is a great aerobic activity.

DSC_0058

P.S. Don’t do this at home!  And I am not liable for anything should you decide to jump on a hotel bed.  You are performing such activities because you wanted to.  In fact, everyone wants to jump on their beds . . . but most people act like adults.

The Christmas Singing: A Review

If you need a fabulous vacation read or a great gift idea, I highly recommend The Christmas Singing by Cindy Woodsmall.  I think I read this book in slightly less than 24 hours.

Yes.  It was a weekend, ok?

A sweet story.  And it takes place in winter . . . I heart winter stories.

Mattie, the main character, finds herself no longer engaged – and is very confused by her former fiancĂ©.  Little does she know, her understanding of the situation that led to the breakup is far from the grave reality of the situation.

Three years later, a fire destroys her cake baking kitchen.  Mattie is forced to move back home while she recuperates.  This move causes her to collide with her former beau, causing conflicting feelings.

To read more, head on over to Amazon (this would fit in your stocking!)

A special thanks to Waterbrook Press for sending me a copy of The Christmas Singing to review for free.  I was not paid for this post nor do I have to return the book.
