Wordless Wednesday – Don’t Use Rock Salt

I am supposed to make play dough for our church’s Children’s Ministry. Thinking I had all of the ingredients, Mr. Me-Too and I launched into this cooking adventure this morning.

But I lacked some good ‘ol Morton’s Table Salt.

I use Real Salt for our food.

However, we use Rock Salt to make homemade ice cream. Salt is salt. Right?

Wrong.

If you would like to make some play dough today, I have included the recipe for your kitchen endeavor. Hope you have all of the ingredients!

Homemade Play Dough

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt (NOT Rock Salt!)
2 TBSP vegetable oil (I used Olive Oil . . . it was all I had.)
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water


Mix all ingredients together and heat (medium heat) until mixture pulls away from sides of pan, (about 2-3 minutes.) Keep stirring with wooden spoon to keep from getting lumpy. For coloring add a few drops of food coloring to the water. Store play dough in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware.

I have made lots of playdough with my kids. I am glad to know that I should never use rock salt!

i would have thought the same thing :). and finally, i can use that cream of tartar for something!
